United International Pictures (UIP), formed in 1981, is jointly owned by its Partners, Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures. Since its formation UIP has distributed over 1,000 films under licence across the world, including more than 100 Academy Award® winners. UIP continues to bring many of the most exciting films made today to international cinema audiences. 

Outside North America, UIP distributes Paramount and Universal films to cinemas in numerous territories, with distribution offices in 16 territories and third party licensees in a further 43 (for a full list of UIP offices and licensees please see our Global Directory).

UIP also holds non-theatrical rights in all markets outside North America (see Non-theatrical).

Non-theatrical distribution enables audiences outside conventional cinemas to access our films. UIP distributes Paramount and Universal titles non-theatrically throughout the world outside North America. We also distribute on behalf of other licensors in certain markets.

UIP licences titles for group screenings on video, DVD or Blu-ray to film clubs, schools, universities, coaches and many other institutions. UIP offers the latest films in digital formats for video on demand (VOD) and pay per view in-room entertainment for hotel guests and hospital patients. Titles are typically available three months after cinema release.
